Greenswell Dirty Duathlon

Get down-n dirty at the 2012 Greenswell Dirty Duathlon on Sunday, May 20! The runs take place on the muddy and obstacle-laden Hunter's Hollow trail that winds along side the wooded area at the northern part of Alum Creek Reservoir. Oh..beware..this will not be your normal duathlon run.

There are two dirty distances to choose from:

Dirty Short: 1.8 mile trail run + 11 mile bike + 1.8 mile trail run
Dirty Du: 3.6 mile trail run + 22 mile bike + 3.6 mile trail run

Note: Athletes will not be able to start another bike lap after 11:00 am.  When bike course closes, there will no longer be traffic control officials on the bike course or at the park entrance.

Divisions

Event divisions are available to participants:

Age divisions: Male & Female: Under 19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ 

Clydesdale (Men 200 lbs +) and Athena (Female 150 lbs+)

Shirts & Amenities

All participants will receive a gender-specific organic or sustainable soft-spun cotton shirt vs. a conventional cotton t-shirts or chemically-produced polyester technical shirt. Please note these shirts are more expensive than basic t-shirts or technical shirts...but you will feel the difference. For more details about our shirts, visit Greenswell Green. Athletes must be registered 10 days from the event date to be guaranteed an event shirt. Athletes registering within 10 days of the event date will need to sign an event shirt waiting list at athlete check-in and then check back after the race for shirt availability.

Shirt sizes are gender-specific and the size selected during registration will be the shirt size given you at athlete check-in. If the shirt size selected by you during registration is the incorrect size, you will need to complete a shirt size transfer list at athlete check-in. You will be required to check back after the race for size availability.

Event Rules

Participants must wear assigned number on the front of your shirt or shorts. Your number must be visible to checkpoint recorders at all times. Attach timing chip to your ankle with the provided strap. You will not be scored at the finish line unless your number is visible and your timing chip is attached when you cross the finish.

Bike Helmets are mandatory. No exceptions. If Bike Helmet and bike numbers have been assigned, they must be secured to equipment. Once the transition closes you will be required to display assigned race number to enter and exit the transition or remove any equipment.

Non-participants are not permitted in the transition area for any reason.

Transition closes promptly at stated time. No entrance into transition will be permitted after stated time.

Please note for participant safety, once the event begins no vehicles will be able to leave the park until after the last participant has entered the bike course and left the park.

Entry Fee

Entry Fees below do not reflect $12 one-day license fee for multisport athletes who are NOT members USA Triathlon. We are required to collect these license fees and pass them directly to the appropriate event sanctioning body. ALL non-members are required to pay the one-day license fee.

Awards

The top three overall finishers by gender and the top division finishers by gender are eligible to receive an award commemorating their experience. Each member of the top three relay teams will receive a commemorative award.

Awards will not be available at the event site. It is Greenswell's desire to reduce the event's environmental impact and reduce the cost of the event to increase the donation to the Greenswell Participant Foundation or charitable partner named for the event so athletes elgible for awards must request to receive their award to craigthompson@greenswell.com within 10 business days after the event. The awards will then be ordered for all those requesting an award and mailed when completed.

Participants contacting us after the award notification period has expired to claim an award will be referenced to the award policy.

Policies & Refunds

Transfers - Event transfers within 10 days of event are subject to a $15 transfer fee + the incremental increase in Fee. There are no entry fee refunds for transferring from a longer distance to a shorter distance. All transfers must be received in writing at craigthompson@greenswell.com.


Refunds - There are no refunds. We can provide you credit toward another event in current year or transfer credit to the same event next year if request is made in writing within 10 days of the event.

Directions

From the Cleveland to host venue - Take Route 71 South Columbus to SR 36/37. Turn RIGHT toward Delaware. Take 36/37 toward Delaware - Stay in RIGHT lane - Turn RIGHT at 3 B's & K Road (about a mile after your turn off I-71). Take 3 B's approximately 2 miles to Howard Rd. Turn LEFT and take Howard Rd to the Howard Boat Ramp - Turn LEFT. Park where directed.

From Toledo to host venue - Take S.R 23 South to SR 36/37 toward Sunbury. Take 36/37 to Old State Rd North - Turn LEFT. Take Old State Rd North to Howard Rd - turn RIGHT on Howard. Take Howard to Howard Boat Ramp  - Turn RIGHT. Park as directed.

From Cincinnati to host venue - Take Route 71 North to SR 36/37. Turn LEFT toward Delaware. Take 36/37 toward Delaware - Stay in right lane - Turn Right at 3 B's & K Rd. Take 3 B's to Howard Rd - turn LEFT onto Howard.  Take Howard to the Howard Boat Ramp Area - Turn LEFT. Park where directed.

Duathlon Run #1 - The Duathlon will at the trail head of the Hunter's Hollow trail - dirty duathletes (long) will complete a 3.6 mile train run. The trail is a grass and earthen trail that features many obstacles from fallen trees, muddy hills, water and mud puddles, animals, and other natural debris. The dirty short athletes will complete a 1.8 mile trail run.

Once the respective run distance is completed, all participants then begin the bike portion ... duathletes, and relay bike participants will head out of Park, turn LEFT onto Howard Rd and then turn RIGHT onto Old State Rd North. Take Old State Rd North to Kilbourne Rd - Turn RIGHT. Take Kilbourne Rd which will turn into SR 521 to N. Galena Rd. Turn Right. Take Galena Rd to Berkshire Rd - turn RIGHT. Take Berkshire Rd to 3 B's& K Rd - turn RIGHT. Take 3 B's to Howard Rd - turn LEFT. Take Howard to the Howard Rd Boat Ramp area entrance. NOTE: See the directions below for your laps on the bike course!

Dirty Short duathletes will re-enter the park and head into transition.

Dirty Long duathletes will PASS by the Galena Boat Ramp Park entrance and complete a 2nd loop. Participants will re-enter the park after completion of the 2nd lap.

Run Course Participants will then begin the final leg of their Greenswell Dirty Duathlon experience. Participants will repeat the the same course as they did for their first run.
